about

This Compact Disk is dedicated to the memory of Michael Dudman, who died suddenly on 6th August 1994 at his home in Newcastle. His masterful playing and wide musical experience will be sorely missed by all music lovers.

The Walker organ in Christ Church Cathedral is one of the finest instruments in Australia and is especially suited to the Romantic repertoire. It occupies an important place in Newcastle's musical life, where Michael Dudman's authoritative recitals covering the major literature for the instrument have been responsible for the revival of interest in organ music. The instrument was dismantled in August 1977 in order to protect it during building extensions to the Cathedral - and was rebuilt in 1987.

With the exception of the Toccata & Fugue in D Minor, all these pieces were recorded from 1975 to 1979.
